The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Yet

The speculation about this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The secret has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is working on a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction implies that the team could be designing a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it kicked off the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, branching plots, and complex character building—elements that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths only possible by choosing a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, letting players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be solved in a variety of manners, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a clever way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can look forward to another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
